Spanning an area of 37,000 square metres, the planned logistics centre will provide a range of integrated storage and distribution services.

Saudi Arabia jumped 17 ranks in the LPI in less than two years from the launch of the national strategy for transportation and logistics services.

The Index shows that ports in the Middle East and East Asia responded best to the heavy volume growth and service volatility caused by the impact of the pandemic.

Al Seer Marine, an Abu Dhabi-listed marine company engaged across multiple marine sectors, has entered into a collaboration agreement with Netbulk, a one-stop maritime solution company based in  Singapore, as part of its growth strategy to expand its worldwide freight services. The agreement between the two companies will focus on Middle East Asia as well as the Asia Pacific and help clients to mitigate supply chain uncertainties through the collaboration of 10 commercially controlled ships, with further plans to increase the fleet through future partnerships or acquisitions. 

Bahri, the Saudi global provider of logistics and transport services inaugurated on Monday the first phase of its Fleet Performance Monitoring Center (FPMC) in Riyadh, as part of its strategy to develop a centralised support system to provide data and analytics-driven guidance and recommendations for technical, safety, and crew operations.

RIYADH: The National Shipping Co. of Saudi Arabia, known as Bahri, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Tabadul, to work on a series of projects in the transportation and logistics sector.

Alongside cooperating on several pilot projects, the MoU aims to establish and develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Bahri Logistics, Bahri Ship Management, and Tabadul, according to a statement.

It also seeks to explore innovative solutions for data sharing within the transportation and logistics sector.

The national shipping firm has also signed a contract with channels by stc to provide a chain of logistics services, which includes customs clearance assistance, storage provisions, and world-class delivery services.

UAE-based shipping major P&O Maritime Logistics has announced the launching of its modified multi-carrying vessels (MCVs) that can carry containerised cargo. The UAE shipping major also announced its plans to increase connectivity across the Red Sea between Port of Jeddah and Port Sudan in partnership with Unifeeder.

The company said the new MCVs would help debottleneck customer supply chains by ensuring faster cargo turnaround.

The development of nominal vessel utilization is a key parameter in gauging the strength of the sea cargo market, according to Sea Intelligence.

Even though demand grew by 0.6% Y/Y in June, it doesn’t change the fact that it has been on a downwards trend ever since it spiked in peak season 2020.

Shorages, a UAE-based e-commerce fulfilment startup, announced on January 11, 2022, that it has raised a seed round of $700,000 to enable international e-commerce brands to tap into the GCC market. 

Shorages, which launched its fulfilment services in December 2019, offers brands the digital, regulatory and warehouse infrastructure needed to unlock online sales in the GCC. Its fulfilment centres around the UAE are prepared to receive inventory and dispatch orders across the GCC region.

Kuehne+Nagel (K+N) has entered into a binding agreement to acquire Apex International Corporation as it looks to expand its presence in Asia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Reuters quotes people familiar with the matter as stating that the transaction is valued at around $1.5bn-$2bn. The deal is the largest acquisition in K+N’s history and will make the company the largest forwarder in the airfreight market (see chart below), surpassing current market leader DHL Global Forwarding (GF). Apex generates yearly turnover in excess of $2.3bn and in 2020, the company handled total airfreight volume of approximately 750,000 tons and sea freight volume of 190,000 20ft container equivalent units (TEU).

Egypt is the latest country in the MENA region to announce that it is reopening airports to resume regular commercial flights, which will increase air freight capacity across the market.
